Mood and Style of Play

When the larp starts, the overall mood is a happy one. This is a holiday for the hosts and wealthy guests, and a career opportunity for the staff. There will still be moments and issues of a more serious nature, but these will not necessarily spoil the otherwise festive feeling of vacation for others. As the larp progresses, the mood will change. This will be workshopped and calibrated with the organizers as and when it happens. We do not want a farcical playing style, nor do we want an overly suppressed style of play. We aim for a pressure-cooker feeling, where a lot happens under the surface, but the lid is sometimes blown off. The larp is only four days long, so if something happens to your character - act on it!

We do not want play to loose or play to win at this larp. Remember that your character should still have a life and the best possible social standing for him or her when the larp is over.

This larp is low-transparency. Players can expect some surprises, and we will not share all characters with all players before the larp, but players are free to share parts or the whole of their characters with other players as they see fit, and if other players agree to it.

Setting

When the larp starts, it is the 27nd of October 1929. The lord and lady are arriving at the hunting lodge with a large party of friends and close family. The staff arrived yesterday, to prepare for the weeks ahead. The plan is to sleep in, have long, lazy breakfasts, spend time outdoors, play games, sing and dance, draw and paint, discuss big and small issues, flirt, gamble, and spend time with friends and family. The downstairs is a world of its own, where the staff work to make everything run smoothly, and at the same time manage their own lives and relationships. Maybe they too can take advantage of the country setting and good mood?

During the stay, news of the Wall Street Crash will reach our holidaymakers. Some will be untouched. Some might lose everything. How will that change their hopes and dreams, their plans for their futures, their relationships to each other? How will it affect their vacation?
